The Latvian workshop of “Heritage on the Water: Community Engagement through Logboat Building and Archaeological Discovery – HOW” project took place at Āraiši Archaeological Park from 11 to 14 June 2026. Participants completed the main stages of building a simple logboat from a single log: preparing the work area, removing the bark, marking and shaping the hull, hollowing it with axes and adzes, finishing the interior and exterior surfaces, and making the oars. On the final day, the completed boat was launched on Lake Āraiši.
The programme also included the installation of the joint poster exhibition, an excursion around Āraiši Archaeological Park and informal evening activities supporting cross-border exchange.
The Latvian workshop involved 26 participants, of whom 12 were from Estonia and 14 from Latvia. Five participants represented the project partner organizations (2 from Latvia and 3 from Estonia).
