HOW-project Boat Building Workshop in Estonia

The Estonian workshop “Heritage on the Water: Community Engagement through Logboat Building and Archaeological Discovery – HOW” project took place in Tori from 3 to 7 August 2026. Its main focus was the construction of an expanded logboat – haabjas. Participants practiced hollowing and shaping the hull, heating and gradually expanding its sides, and fitting the ribs. Several boats were worked on simultaneously, and three community members brought their own partly completed logboats. This enabled different stages of the construction process to be demonstrated and compared at the same time. Supported by Estonia-Latvia Programme.
